Get the right cells for your unique project

LifeNet Health® LifeSciences is the only biospecimen provider in the world that services donation from consent to recovery, preparation, cell isolation, characterization, and storage. As a result of our infrastructure, our cells and tissues are:

  • Directly, ethically sourced with broad donor consent and comprehensive medical and social histories
  • Donor-matched cells and tissue samples
  • HLA-typed and genotyped for phase I and II drug metabolizing enzymes and liver-disease associated SNPs
  • Provided with a histopathology report from board certified pathologist with H&E and trichrome stained images and MAFLD scoring.
  • Available from healthy- and diseased-origin
  • Supported by protocols, media recommendations, and expert technical assistance, including fit-for-purpose lot selection

Hepatocytes

Hepatocytes constitute approximately 80% of all cells within the liver and perform multiple functions including detoxification, protein synthesis and storage, and the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, and xenobiotics.

Primary human hepatocytes are the gold standard for metabolism, drug-drug interaction, and toxicity studies.

*MASLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease) score (MAS) was assigned according to the standards of the NASH CRN Scoring System (Hepatology 41: 1313-1321, 2005).

**Inflammation and fibrosis were assessed using standard Batts-Ludwig scoring methodology (Scale, 0-4, American Journal of Surgical Pathology 19: 1409-1417, 1995).

Categories of primary human hepatocytes offered by LifeNet Health LifeSciences

Our adult primary human hepatocyte inventory is richly annotated with clinical donor metadata, spanning both healthy-origin (normal BMI, no known fatty-liver disease) and diseased‐origin hepatocytes across the full spectrum of metabolic dysfunction (high BMI, MAFLD/NAFLD, steatosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis [MASH/NASH], and early fibrosis). The majority of our lots derive from healthy-origin donors, enabling baseline, “normal” hepatic responses. In parallel, we offer diseased-origin lots (steatosis, fibrosis, MASH) to support disease modelling, mechanistic investigation of metabolic liver disorders, and differential toxicity assays where the hepatic phenotype may influence drug disposition or safety. Benefits to researcher:

  • Ability to directly compare compound responses in normal vs perturbed hepatocyte phenotype (e.g., healthy vs steatotic/MASH) to reveal subtle differences in metabolic clearance, transporter activity or toxicity risk in an at-risk population.
  • Rich donor annotation (BMI, liver histopathology, fibrosis stage, genotyping) enables informed lot selection and biologically meaningful interpretation of results.
  • Ideal for modelling metabolic liver disease progression, investigating DILI in the context of fatty liver disease, and supporting translational relevance in populations with metabolic dysfunction.

Optimized human hepatocyte media

Thaw, plate, and culture primary human hepatocytes with our media products. To achieve superior results with our plateable hepatocytes, we recommend using media products sequentially. For suspension applications, we recommend using our Thawing Medium, Culture Medium, and Culture Medium Supplement.

  • Optimizes health and function of hepatocytes
  • Convenient volumes, premixed components
